Philosophy

Abintra  is a Latin word, meaning “from within.”  This perfectly describes our outlook on substance abuse treatment.  You have the answers.  It is our job to help you to find your “strength from within…”

We are not in the business of making decisions for people.  We understand that you are an individual and should be treated like one.  We want you to make your own decisions throughout your journey of change.  So, we will not push you to label yourself as alcoholic.  We will not tell you that you have a problem.  We will allow you to be the judge of yourself and your circumstances.

Stop Sign Analogy

Treatment for substance abuse can be compared to coming to a stop sign in your life.  So, we look at your life on a timeline.

1. Come to a Full and Complete Stop - Abstinence during treatment will help you to make the best decision possible in regards to your future chemical consumption.

2. Look to the Left (Past) - Ask yourself how you got to this point in your life, especially since you never intended to be here.  Here is a good list of things that lead to treatment:

             A. Attitudes

             B. Behaviors

             C. Companions

3. Look to the Right (Future) - Ask yourself where you want to go in your life.  Here is a good list of things to identify in the short- and long-term:

             A. Values

             B. Goals

             C. Relationships

4. Look to the Left (Past) Again - Ask yourself if you are going to get to where you want to go by doing what you have been doing.  When the answer is 'No,' you have to decide exactly what needs to change.  Here is a good list of things to change:

             A. Attitudes

             B. Behaviors

             C. Companions

5. Proceed with Caution - Once you have a realistic plan, you go forward into your life and you implement the plan, making sure to modify it as necessary.
